Limited Resource Teacher Training in Cambodia
Donation protected
Hello!
My name is Jen and I am a sixth grade English Language Arts teacher in Massachusetts. I am currently in my second year teaching full time. Teaching has been a passion of mine for as long as I can remember. I love coming to work each day and leaving with the sense that I have made an impact on the lives of others.
These past two years of teaching have opened my eyes to the challenges faced in education due to a lack of resources in schools. I recently learned that the district I teach in is underfunded by 17 million dollars. It is frustrating to think what more we could do for students with appropriate funding.
As frustrating as it is to think about the challenges with American education, there are many places overseas where resources are even more limited. Classrooms may be jam packed with over fifty students and may have very few or outdated materials. Additionally, many educators lack the training and professional development that all teachers need to grow and succeed.
I am thrilled to have been offered a position with LRTT (Limited Resource Teacher Training) working with teachers in Cambodia this summer. LRTT is "a social enterprise that upskills and energises teaching communities around the world." They have been successfully running programs in limited resource schools since 2012. Through LRTT I will have the opportunity to help teachers become better teachers, and in turn, help students have a more positive educational experience. I also hope that my time abroad will make me a better teacher as I return with a renewed outlook.
Any donations to help with the cost of the trip would be greatly appreciated. I have listed the break down of costs below. Program fees go towards housing and transportation while we are in Cambodia.
Program Fees: $1850
Flights: $1400
Visa: $50
Insurance: $100
Thank you!
