Expedition to Peru to help with community projects

I am Lily Sample from Samuel Whitbread Academy in Shefford, and I am 15 years old.

In July 2025 myself and a small group of students from Samuel Whitbread Academy will travel with Camps International to Peru for a month of personal development and charitable project work.

As well as hopefully gathering donations through this platform, I will be fundraising through a sponsored climb of Mount Snowdon in 2024, and various bake sales, car boot sales, odd jobs around my local area, and if possible, taking on a Saturday job. I currently have a paper round, which means that I am up at 6am every day, in all weathers to raise as much of the funds as I can. If I can twist my Dads arm, he might even sell his Classic BSA Bantam trials motorbike to help me (nudge nudge dad...)

The money raised will go towards the money needed for travel and for me to assist in a variety of project work. This includes community development work, wildlife conservation, environmental conservation, and a personal challenge involving a 4 day trek to Machu Picchu.

The core objectives of this expedition are to undertake projects in order to:

- Raise the educational standards of developing communities within a rural district of Peru

- Raise the living standards of developing communities, within a rural district of Peru

- Assist with ongoing wildlife conservation programs to preserve biodiversity and protect vulnerable habitats

I am both excited and nervous about this expedition. It will be the first time I will have stayed away from home for an extended length of time, and will certainly take me outside of my comfort zone! I will be leaving all of my creature comforts behind, and fully immersing myself in a new culture, whilst learning new skills, and developing many attributes that will help me in my future career choices. I am keen to help raise the standards and accessibility of education in the region, as I am very aware of the privileged position I am in with regards to my own education, and want to help others have as many chances to succeed in the world.
