Hi, My name is Lily and I am fundraising to be able to volunteer with Camps International for the Borneo Trek Expedition in the Summer of 2027.

Ever since I first heard about the Borneo Trek Expedition by Camps International, I knew it wasn’t something I would do just for fun — I see it as a chance to step into real, meaningful work. Over four weeks in Sabah, I’ll trek deep into jungles, live off-grid, and be immersed in local village life, not as a visitor but as someone ready to roll up their sleeves and help. I’ll be contributing to long-term conservation efforts in one of Borneo’s most threatened habitats, working alongside local people to protect orangutan habitats, replant native trees, and help to halt deforestation.

I want to be part of something bigger than myself. In the rural communities near Bongkud, I’ll help build and renovate local facilities — classrooms, water systems, or community centres — to support education, health, and wellbeing. By doing that, I hope to foster stronger opportunities for the local youth and families, and support sustainable development that lasts long after I leave. At the same time, I’ll also get to live with the people, learn their culture, share in daily routines, and understand their challenges in ways I never could from miles away.

But I won’t pretend this is going to be easy. I’ll face sweaty, humid jungle conditions, with nights in hammocks, minimal facilities, and long, tiring days of physical work.

Trekking through rainforest terrain, dealing with insects, steep slopes, and unpredictable weather—that’s going to test me. On top of that, I’ll be far from home, relying on teamwork, mental strength, and grit to keep going. Yet I believe that those kinds of challenges are precisely the experiences that shape us — not just physically, but in empathy, resilience, and perspective.

By backing me, you’re not funding a holiday — you’re helping me to play a small but real part in positive change. Your support will go toward paying for project costs, equipment, travel, and enabling me to be part of conservation, education and community development work on the ground. If I reach my goal, I’ll return not just with photos and memories, but with new skills, deep friendships across cultures, and the satisfaction of knowing I gave something to people and nature who need it.
