Liliane's Eagle Scout Conservation Project
Donation protected
Dear Friends,
My project will benefit the Randalls Island Park Alliance. It is a non-profit organization that is dedicated to ensuring that Randalls Island parklands are developed and maintained for the benefit of visitors of every species: People, birds, mammals, insects, etc.
My Eagle project will focus on contributing to the biodiversity of the freshwater wetland area of Randalls Island to support the natural habitat of the insects and wildlife on Randalls Island. I will set up six tree swallow nesting boxes and repair three bee hotels. In addition to this, we will purchase and plant 60 freshwater wetland trees and shrubs. Plants, insects, and birds work together to create a thriving habitat. It is the "Circle of Life. My Eagle project will support the natural ecosystem of the freshwater wetlands on Randalls Island.
White Mulberry trees and weeds are overgrown in the freshwater wetland area of Randalls Island. The White Mulberry Tree is not native to New York and does not adequately support the life and wildlife native to New York. By removing the White Mulberry Trees from the freshwater wetland area and replacing them with a more native biodiverse collection of trees and shrubs, the area will be able to support and host a more diverse population of insects and wildlife that will thrive in the area. There are no tree swallow nesting boxes on Randalls Island and the placement of these nesting boxes will help the tree swallows thrive on Randalls Island. The three bee hotels in the freshwater wetland area must be repaired to attract solitary bees. The bees and the birds will help pollinate the new trees and shrubs, allowing the area to thrive.
Please consider donating to this GoFundMe to benefit this beautiful and important parkland.
Any additional funds will be donated directly to The Randalls Island Park Alliance.
