Please join LIJVS Sr. Leadership and the hospital’s local gun violence prevention subcommittee for a very special and emotional event as we are pleased to have Fred Guttenberg, one of the leading advocates for gun violence prevention in the country, for a wide-ranging discussion with his friend and our very own Dr. Sal Pardo.

Fred tragically lost his beautiful daughter Jaime in the Parkland school shooting merely months after also tragically losing his brother, a long-time beloved Northwell employee. Ever since that day, he has transformed his pain and grief into positive action on this issue and he has earned the admiration of so many. The event will start promptly at 12pm as he will be coming in between press events in the city but we ask that you arrive at 11:50am. The first 30 employees that attend the event will receive a complimentary copy of his new book, American Carnage, that is currently a best seller.

This event will be the first of a series of events over the next few months highlighting the hospital’s commitment to complementing the health system’s efforts around combating senseless gun violence and changing the narrative on this issue from one of politics towards one that centers around public health.

We ask that you all make every effort to attend this event and to cascade this down to your staff through forwarding this email, sharing the flyer as well as sharing during huddles and in the break rooms. In addition, see the enclosed link for Paws of Love, an initiative under the umbrella of the organization Fred and his family have in their daughter’s honor. Donations of any value are welcome as we aim towards our goal of $2,500 – if we achieve our goal, the hospital will match (similar to the Giving Tree initiative) to fully fund a dog to go to a family experiencing the grief and trauma related to gun violence.
