In Memory of Lijo: Supporting Family After Tragic Loss

Donation protected
Thank you for being here.

My dear cousin, Lijo (31), tragically lost his life in a car accident on September 24th, 2024, in Winnipeg, Manitoba, along with two others. Lijo's wife, Rozy (32), was the sole survivor in their vehicle and is currently recovering from serious injuries.

As a family, we are heartbroken and struggling to comprehend this sudden loss. Lijo and Rozy, married for just two years, were devoted to each other. Lijo had a passion for music, a fondness for junk food, and a commitment to serving at his church. He was deeply cherished by his loved ones, and was due to return home to India with Rozy before this tragedy altered the course of their lives forever.

In the past two weeks, we've worked tirelessly to bring Lijo's father (66) and mother (65) from India, and his younger sister (26) from the UAE to Winnipeg, allowing them to say their final goodbyes. Lijo came from a hardworking, God-fearing family of limited means. His parents, both retired, depend on both their children for financial support, as their income helped cover their living expenses. With his untimely passing, his sister is not only faced with the immense grief of losing her brother, but also the added financial pressure of being the sole financial support for their parents early in her career and at a young age.

Beyond the immediate expenses, Lijo’s passing means that his parents will face ongoing and immediate financial challenges (even lose their home in India), in the months and years to come, as they navigate this new reality without his support.

The costs of emergency travel, visa applications, and related expenses have added significant financial strain on the family. Given these circumstances, they have made the difficult decision to cremate Lijo, rather than burying him.

His parents will stay in Winnipeg for a few months to care for Rozy as she recovers and to grieve together, while his sister will return to her job in the UAE.

We kindly ask for your help to sustain Lijo's family during this incredibly difficult time, as well as providing a cushion for the future. Any contribution, big or small, would be deeply appreciated and will greatly help his grieving family during this time of need.

Thank you for your kindness and generosity.
