Hi Friends!
My name is Alexandra, and I’m currently a student working at the Centre for Grief and Healing, an organization dedicated to supporting individuals and families as they navigate the deeply painful and overwhelming journey of loss.
My primary focus this summer has been on working with youth. Through this experience, I’ve witnessed both the resilience and the unfortunate barriers that grieving families face after the death of a loved one. Many of these children have lost a parent, and in many cases, the surviving parent is left to carry the full weight of parenting: emotionally, financially, and physically. All of this while coping with their own grief.
Many families are doing everything they can to hold it together.
Grief doesn’t just take an emotional toll. It often leaves families struggling to afford basic needs like food, school supplies, clothing, and even opportunities for healing experiences like camp or sports. Things many of us take for granted become out of reach for families in mourning.
Beyond meeting basic needs, this fundraiser is intended to support the healthy development of children and youth. Financial strain after loss doesn’t just limit access to material goods. It can impact a child’s ability to socialize, engage in community life, and participate in opportunities that build confidence, resilience, and identity. Peer connection, play, and positive experiences are essential for healthy development across the emotional, social, and cognitive domains. This initiative is about helping restore those opportunities so grieving children don’t fall through the cracks.
All funds raised will go directly toward supporting single parents who have lost a significant other and are now raising children alone. These parents didn’t choose this path. It was handed to them through loss. With support from the community, we can help ease the burden they carry.
Your donation will help provide:
- Essential items for both children and parents (school supplies, food, hygiene products, etc.)
- Financial assistance for families facing hardship due to the loss
- Access to recreational opportunities for kids, so they can experience moments of joy & connection
This isn’t just about money. It’s about reminding these families that they are not forgotten. That they matter. That their community sees them, hears them, and wants to help.
If you are able to give anything at all, thank you. If you’re not, even a share goes a long way. Let’s surround these families with the kind of care that helps them keep going, even when the road ahead feels impossible.
Thank you :)
Alex
