On Wednesday, September 3rd, our “Pops” — as the grandkids lovingly call him — was out in the pasture doing what he loves most: working his cattle. While helping Reese get the show calves and a bull ready, Pops bent down to clip onto the bull’s nose ring, but the bull had other plans. In a matter of seconds, the bull tossed him several times and even over the fence.

He’s now left badly bruised, with both his tibia and fibula broken. To make matters worse, he’s been admitted to the trauma unit due to excessive swelling and concern for compartment syndrome.

As all of this unfolded, our mom (“Ney Ney”) was inside the house running a fever, unaware of what was happening. On top of the physical and emotional toll, our family has been hit with devastating news: Dad’s employer recently dropped their health insurance due to nonpayment, and he hasn’t received his full payroll in weeks. Dad has always been the main source of income, and without his ability to work, the financial strain is overwhelming.

To hear our mom’s broken voice on the phone from the ER — sick, scared, and crying — has shattered us. While we are doing everything we can, we can only stretch so far. Aaron and Kristina are just finishing a 10-month rebuild of their home after major water damage while still managing ongoing health challenges. Ryan and Cheyenne are small business owners working through the slow season and their own obligations.

We have set this up in hopes of easing the financial burden for our parents during this difficult time — helping them cover basic monthly costs while Dad recovers. Anyone who knows our parents knows they are among the most selfless and loving people out there. Now it’s our turn to try and lift them up.
