If you’ve ever had the pleasure of meeting Jackie Jones, then you already know that he is a selfless man who is constantly putting himself out to help others. Jackie works harder than most people and takes great pride in delivering a quality job. He is a part-time dishwasher at Mildred’s in Ardmore, and he also works full-time cutting grass, weed eating, and doing any yard work he can find, often for much less than what it is worth to help people who are struggling such as people with disabilities, widows and single females.
Jackie is not alone in his efforts. His wife and special needs autistic son are right there beside him, helping to mow lawns, run dishes at Mildred’s, and do whatever they can to make ends meet. They don’t complain. They show up. They work hard. They take pride in everything they do. And it shows.
But recently, life hit them hard.
Jackie’s old truck, his only way to get to jobs and provide for his family, broke down and it really caused a hardship for their family.
Eventually, they had no choice but to get a new truck. As soon as he did, the family went right back to cutting yards. That’s just who he is. However, despite his work ethic and sheer determination, things have snowballed. Jackie and his family are currently homeless, trying to dig their way out of a tough situation with very little support.
The hardest part of all this is that Jackie would never ask for help. Not money, not a handout, not even sympathy. He’s humble, proud, and kind. He believes in working for everything he has, which is exactly why I felt the need to ask the community to rally around him and his family in their time of need. Because sometimes, even the strongest people need someone in their corner.
This fundraiser is to help Jackie and his family with basic needs: a safe place to sleep, groceries, hygiene items, and hopefully, a step toward more stable housing. Our goal is enough to hopefully cover housing, food, GoFundMe fees, and for some essentials while they get back on their feet.
They have done the hard part. They have kept going. They have stayed kind. All they need now is a little help from people who care.
Whether you’re able to give $5, $50, or simply share this story, every little bit helps and will be so appreciated. Let’s lift this family up the way they’ve lifted others, and show Jackie that hard work, humility, and heart don’t go unnoticed.
