Lift up David & Rob Lowe-Wright Starting Over
Donation protected
Our friends David and Rob Lowe-Wright, are two of the warmest and most giving people we have ever known. They have spent their lives devoted to work in the field of Mental Health and Substance Abuse and are always ready to offer a hand up to anyone in need. They are outgoing yet private people who don’t want to share their struggles with others. However, it’s been becoming clear that things have gone from bad to worse for them over the past few years, hitting bottom as this pandemic has worn on.
Their chosen field of work has been challenged as reimbursement by insurers and managed care organizations for mental health services often doesn’t cover the cost of care. Several of the companies they have worked for have reorganized or completely shut down in recent years. That has left David and Rob finding themselves often looking for new jobs and taking much lower paying non-career jobs in order to get by. While these pandemic years have offered all of us some tough challenges, they have been particularly hard on David and Rob. They no longer have their medical jobs and receive very little for unemployment.
They have been robbed by a friend whom they were helping, have an older car and mountain of car repairs bills and ongoing medical expenses. And now, despite downsizing to the cheapest apartment they can find, they face the very real prospect that they will be evicted because they haven’t been able to keep up with payments and are more than $11,000 in arrears. The recent loss of David’s beloved mother, the auction of storage unit that housed special items from her when they defaulted for nonpayment, and the death of their two sweet puppies, has added to the emotional toll on these two gentle souls.
Rob has a minimal job with minimal pay at the moment. He is working 6 days a week but when you factor in health insurance, rent, utilities, food, car repairs (you all know how this goes), it adds up quickly and something has to give.
Imagine being 60 and realizing you have lost everything and have to start all over.
That is where they are now.
David and Rob have been friends to all of us. We know them as coworkers, schoolmates, friends. We know they have always been supporters and cheerleaders to us in good times and bad.
Let’s show them some support back during this challenging time in their life.
Although it has taken some convincing, they have agreed to allow us to set up this GoFundMe page to help them stay afloat, until the pandemic eases and maybe a job will materialize for David. At the very minimum, we are hoping to keep them from becoming homeless. All money raised would be going directly to them for car repair bills and basic needs of food and shelter. Most of us don’t have the personal funds to do it alone, but as a village we can support them during this challenging time.
All of us have been through tough times in our lives and know that it is difficult to reach out for help. We have spoken with David and Rob and they know that this is not charity, but a true reflection of the friendship we feel for them. Our hope is that you can donate whatever you can and share some words of encouragement.
We are grateful for anything you can offer and wish you peace and love,
Patti (Laskowski) Elwell, Ellen (McNamara) Dorosh, Beatrice Furlow
