Life-Saving Surgery for Tristan

Tax deductible
UPDATE***
Tristan had surgery on 5/25/2022 at Dr.G's. His surgery went smoothly and Tristan is now in recovery. He has been doing amazing!!

Dear Kittykind friends and family,

Kittykind has recently taken in two cats, Tristan and Siegried, used for breeding and then abandoned. Tristan, a 2 yrs old grey British Shorthair cat, has a life-threatening condition and needs emergency surgery that will cost $6,000. The two bonded boys are currently in foster care with our wonderful volunteer Becky. She will be taking Tristan to have his surgery at our vet Dr.G's hospital, on May 25, 2022.

Tristan and Siegried were found outside by one of the rescuers we regularly work with. The cats were meowing at their owner's house door but were refused to be let it. Our rescuer asked the man, but he didn't want Tristan and Siegried back. The boys were not neutered, so we suspect their owner was using them for breeding and probably had way more cats than he could care for. The rescuer worked with KittyKind to have them neutered, tested for FIV/FeLV, vaccinated, and examined, and during that time, Tristan’s heart murmur was detected. We then had further vetting, which revealed, along with the heart murmur, that he had a hole in his diaphragm, causing some internal organs to shift around. This condition is life-threatening, so it needs to be corrected. There is a surgical procedure to fix this, but it is very costly.

Because it is major surgery, there is a chance Tristan won’t make it through. BUT, if he does make it through, the surgery should remedy the problem. Like so many cats, he will be a cat living with a heart murmur; heart murmurs are not uncommon and are addressed by checkups to monitor the heart murmur and medication as needed. We've had cats with heart murmurs that lived to 16. So, cats with heart murmurs can and typically do live normal lives. Therefore, despite the risk and expense of the surgery, KittyKittyKind wants to give Tristan the chance of that life, so we are fund-raising to pay the $6000 bill.

After the surgery, we hope that Tristan’s severe medical issue is behind him. Other than perhaps needing medication for a heart murmur, his health and longevity are as with any other cat.

Please consider donating today to give Tristan a second chance at life! Thank you all for your generosity and kindness!

With love,
Kittykind volunteers
