Special Project: Satellite Internet in the Cordillera Blanca & Huayhuash Base Camps

The Socorro Andino Peruano Foundation – S.A.P. was created with the mission of protecting lives in the high mountains and strengthening the culture of safety in the Andes.

One of our priority projects is the implementation of a Starlink satellite internet network in the main base camps of the Cordillera Blanca and the Cordillera Huayhuash, two of the most iconic mountaineering destinations in the world.

The Challenge

Every year, dozens of serious accidents occur due to falls, avalanches, hypothermia, altitude sickness, or disorientation. The absence of communication in remote areas prevents a rapid response, often leading to fatal outcomes.

Our Solution

We have already installed the first satellite internet base in Llamacorral, which now allows real-time emergency calls and immediate coordination with authorities. The next step is to expand this life-saving network to other strategic camps, such as:

️ Alpamayo Base Camp

️ Taullipampa (Santa Cruz Trek)

️ Carhuacocha, Huayhuash, Viconga, and Jahuacocha (Huayhuash Circuit)

Expected Impact

Immediate response to high-altitude emergencies.

Significant reduction of deaths caused by isolation and lack of communication.

Reinforced safety for tourists, guides, local communities, and operators.

Positioning Peru as a South American leader in high mountain rescue.

How to Support

To achieve this goal, we seek financial and technological support to:

Expand the Starlink network throughout the Cordillera Blanca and Huayhuash.

Acquire portable satellite communication devices for expeditions.

Ensure long-term sustainability and maintenance of the system.

With your support, we will build the first satellite safety network in the Peruvian Andes, ensuring that no expedition is left isolated and that more lives can be saved.
