Life prolonging treatment for Susie Baxter

For those of you that don’t know, our beautiful mum, Susie, has been fighting cancer for some time now.

In 2015 she was diagnosed with breast cancer. After having a mastectomy we all lived a blissfull 5 years before having to hear those awful words that nobody ever wants to hear.

The cancer returned in 2020. Through scans it was discovered that her breast cancer had metastasised to Stage 4 in her lymph nodes, lungs and in her eye.

Mum underwent radiotherapy to treat the tumour behind her eye and as a result is pretty much blind in one eye.

Treatment has been gruelling to say the least, from horrific mouth ulcers to her skin being completely burnt off on her hands and feet, but mum has soldiered on through it all, like the true hero she is.

Then came February 2023. Cancer had reached her brain. Mum underwent brain surgey to remove as much of the tumour as possible, the day after her mum’s funeral.

Since then there have been multiple rounds of radiotherapy as more and more tumours have appeared, 12 this year alone.

In April 2025 mum was rushed to hospital where it was discovered the radiation had caused swelling on the brain and as a result caused brain damage.

In recent months the tumours have become very active in both the brain and lungs.
Due to the swelling, one of the tumours caused a stroke which has resulted in a ‘Foot Drop’ and mum can barely walk.

At the last appointment with her oncologist we were informed that there is only one drug left that will give my mum more time.

The drug is called Enhertu, but unfortunately it is not available on the NHS in England. Despite its proven life extending potential for HER 2-low breast cancer patients, which is what mum’s cancer is, the National Institute of Health and Care Exellence (NICE) hasn’t approved it. However, if you live in Wales, Ireland or Scotland it is available.

The treatment will be every 3 weeks ongoing, through transfusion and will cost £3,000 each treatment. This works out to be £1,000 per week!

To everyone that knows our mum, you will know her incredible zest for life and above all the love for her family and friends. You'll also know how fiercely independent she is and that she would never ask for your help. Which is why we are asking.

We never imagined we would write this, but we can’t face this alone, we need your help.

Any amount will be hugely appreciated to go towards her treatment.

From the bottom of our hearts we thank you.

Love Susie’s 3 girls, Abi, Melissa & Rosie xxx
