Life Blue is dedicated to improving mental health and wellness of first responders through sailing adventures.

First responders are the heroes of our communities. Firefighters run into situations that others are escaping, paramedics and EMTs treat people with significant ilnnesses and injuries, police officers are constantly on the edge of danger while enforcing our laws, but how do they relax and escape their trauma-filled vocation?

We all unwind from the world by enjoying hobbies and leisure activities. Whether that is a video game, gardening, mountain climbing, running, or just reading a book, we distract ourselves so that we can catch our breath and reset. Being on the water has a special place for many people. Ultimately, the enjoyment of sailing down a lake with a steady summer wind brings my worries, fears, and anxiety to a manageable level. As a paramedic, I know what it takes to find peace and allow myself the space and rest that is needed. Finding that balance is very difficult and other first responders often do not know how to cope with the job. Above average rates of mental illness, substance use, and suicide plague our professions and, to be honest, we don't have real supports in place to ensure that we heal, recover, and rest. Life Blue wants to help be a part of the solution offering a way for people to relax and have a sense peace in their lives.

As Life Blue grows and defines our programming, we would love if you would support our venture. Sailing a boat is an enjoyable activity that requires many steps before launching into the water. Registration, licenses, insurance, permits, equipment, dock fees, and regular maintenance all add up, even for a one boat operation. In 2026, Life Blue will launch our first program in western Pennsylvania and we would love for you to become a partner in helping improve mental health of first responders. Donations of any size are gratefully accepted and we will continue to grow and define our mission and share that journey with you.
