We are residents of Liddell Gardens and Doyle Gardens, two tranquil streets in North West London, shaken by the recent decision of Metroline to use our roads as a short cut to transport empty number 28 double-decker buses back and forth to their Willesden Junction Bus Garage. Metroline's operations begin as early as 4.45am and run until long past midnight. The sudden arrival of these heavy rumbling double-decker buses, impairs not just our quality of life but also disrupts our much-needed rest.
Our issue is not with the service of Metroline; we acknowledge its role in our city's transportation infrastructure. Our concern lies with the new operation of the bus route falling within the heart of our residential community, along a road that is not designed to accommodate double-decker buses.
A 2017 study by Environmental Psychology found that exposure to traffic-related noise significantly impairs sleep quality in adults, leading to several health issues including heart disease and stress disorders. The unnecessary exposure to this noise pollution is an added strain to our lives, not to mention a growing concern that ground borne vibrations from the buses are causing damage to our property.
We have made reasonable approaches to Metroline, asking them to consider alternative routes that use existing double-decker bus routes, for example Harrow Road and Chamberlayne Road. We have implored them to work towards minimising the noise pollution impacting the residents of Liddell and Doyle Gardens to no avail. All our efforts have been ignored and we have been left with no choice but to challenge their decision legally.
Russell-Cooke, a law firm, have made an initial review of this matter and have agreed to represent us. They estimate that this work will cost up to £2000 plus VAT. Please donate what you can to support us in trying to bring about this change. Thank you.
