Donation protected
Proud to have lice, content to be vomited on, enjoyed having eggs smashed on my head, and learned to navigate over-crowded, dirty public hospitals like a pro. – Hogar volunteer since 2013.
I am in love with 50+ perfectly adorable, sick and destitute Peruvian children. They’ve stolen my heart and changed my life. Back in 2013 I signed up to volunteer at El Hogar San Francisco de Asis for 6 weeks… I stayed for 6 months. I went home, worked, saved up, and went back for 8 months. Went home, worked, saved up, and went back for 6 more months. Now, I humbly ask for your financial assistance to go back again. The Hogar has become my home and the children my family; help me go home for Christmas?
For the last three years, I’ve thrown my entire savings into being a Hogar volunteer. In theory, it shouldn’t cost more than a plane ticket and is limited personal expenses such as basic toiletries and necesisties. A bed and food is provided for volunteers. I’m a vegetarian and coffee lover though so to stay sane and healthy, supplementary groceries are occasionally needed. The extra funds raised will go towards purchasing needed or desired items for the children with permission from the Director, Dr. Anthony Lazzara. At the end of my stay, any remaining funds will be donated to the home to help cover the children’s medical expenses.
I would like to go back by Christmas. Theoretically I’d love to go back for six more months starting as early as October, it may come down to only a week long trip around the 25th of December. An actual time frame has yet to be determined, but updates will be given. Factors delaying current commitment to a departure include potential jobs as well as potential grad school – I want to be able to do more, than I’m currently qualified for, to help these children that I so dearly love in the future. No matter the length of stay, I’ll reiterate that any excess funds will be directly donated to the Hogar. The goal amount set is based on airfare plus an optimistic 6 month volunteer stay. Every penny donated will be spent to better the lives of the children of the Hogar San Francisco de Asis, whether it’s through my hands or through a financial donation.
Help me, help them. Help me go home to El Hogar.
