Liberation Foundation Project RIC Fundraiser
Dear Friend,
My name is Terrance Lewis, and I am an exoneree who, at the age of 17, was wrongfully accused and subsequently convicted of second degree murder and sentenced to mandatory life imprisonment without the possibility of parole. I spent a total of 21 years, 5 months, and 5 days wrongfully incarcerated before being exonerated by the Conviction Integrity Unit of the Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office and released on May 21, 2019. My wrongful incarceration was the direct result of egregious misconduct by the Philadelphia Police Department.
During my decades of incarceration, I envisioned an organization that would free wrongfully convicted people and support them after their release. I have spent the past two years working every day to make my dream is a reality.
In April 2020, I created the Terrance Lewis Liberation Foundation (aka The Liberation Foundation), a Philadelphia-based non-profit with the mission to advocate for wrongfully convicted Pennsylvanians by connecting them to legal services and providing them with support as they write pro-se submissions and navigate the legal system. Our approach is innovative, offering an unabridged arc of support to pro se claimants that includes specialized legal support, high-caliber investigative work, continuous correspondence, and material provisions post-release.
On 8/10/2021, our model was proven successful, through our partnership with Attorney Troy Chrichton, we successfully litigated Jehmar Gladden's wrongful conviction claim and brought him home.
We are now working to scale this model and connect many attorneys across Philadelphia with our pro se claimants and legal support resources. Friend, I hope that you will support my dream as we embark on this next chapter of the Foundation. Your donation will allow us to acquire the resources we need to successfully advocate on behalf of those claiming innocence, wrongful conviction, or disproportionate sentencing. With your support, we will be able to change the lives of the wrongfully incarcerated, helping to provide them with the greatest gift of all: freedom. I hope that you will consider supporting us as we begin our fight to aid wrongfully-convicted Philadelphians.
