LGBTIQ Community Gorom - South Sudan: Basic Needs
Donation protected
Dear all,
We aks you to support us LGBTQ+ refugees to improve our living conditions in Gorom Refugee Camp in South Sudan. The situation of the LGBTIQ community in GOROM Refugee camp is alarming and unbearable for us. We therefore humbly seek support to buy basic household items that drastically better our conditions - especially utensils to build tent houses, mattresses, blankets, mosquito nets and food. We believe that aside health betterment, your support will help us to create unity, solidarity and togetherness!
Context
Many LGBTQ refugees had to leave Kenya after new and increased repressions by the Kenyan state and homophobic groups - and many, like us previously, found their way to Gorom Refugee Camp in South Sudan. Thus the number of LGBTQ refugees has surged in Gorom Refugee camp. Many new arrivals have not been documented yet and are very desperate and tormented as they left all their property behind and are now depending on the little that us who came in first. Meanwhile the LGBTIQ community has grwon up to 500 people in the refugee camp and constitutes of single mothers and fathers with children, unaccompanied minors, gay men, lesbians and transgenders who have been denied of the basic needs and services required for a smooth living due to their sexual beliefs.
Thus: We need basic food, medicine, basic utensils (matresses, water tanks, mosquito nets) and construction material to build new 30 tent houses to make life bearable for us all. To finance these basic things we are seeking your support!
Costs
We calculated that to cater for all the needs of the now over 500 LGBTIQ members, both registered and unregistered in GOROM Refugee Camp in the meantime approximates to 9000 euros with charges of transportation costs of the materials included, and this we plan to take us through for TWO MONTHS.
Coordination, administration and accountability
From our group, we will coordinate the respnsible use of the money and coordinate all purchases and constructions.
Thank you for your support!
We believe and are equally enthusiastic that this will be a pivot and beginning of a new chapter among the LGBTIQ community in GOROM Camp as it will improve on their livelihoods! Your absolute support and intervention will humbly be appreciated with all due regards.
Yours sincerely,
Queer Youth Gorom
About us
We are a self-organised community of young queer refugees, that is currently located in Gorom Refugee Camp, South Sudan. We have been organising and struggling for a better life of LGBTQ refugees – previously since several years in Kakuma, Kenya and now in Gorom, fostering solidarity and direct action!
To make redistribution possible, the money is raised on our behalf by our comerades in Germany with whom we are continuesly in contact with. Your money will go to them and then immediately transferred to our account in South Sudan.
