I would like to bring attention to an important issue that deserves our focus: The plight of single mothers of children with cerebral palsy in Ghana. It is estimated that, over 20,000 children in Ghana are living with Cerebral Palsy. Most of whom are not in school as they do not have the basic functional capabilities the government requires for enrolment in school.

Major problems faced by children with cerebral palsy in Ghana include malnutrition, social stigma, which forces caregivers to hide children or commit infanticide. These forgotten members of our society endure government neglect, inadequate resources, lack of adequate schools for special needs, and are unable to juggle caregiving with earning. They are often abandoned and isolated by spouses, isolated from their communities and live from hand to mouth.

Children with cerebral palsy lack access to physiotherapy, specialised cerebral palsy chairs, and essential aids for improving their quality of life. They endure significant challenges and limitations, contributing to a poor quality of life. Mothers bear the emotional and mental burdens of witnessing their children's struggles firsthand.
