This sweet family – Matthew, Hilliary (my niece), Solomon, and Reuben - got the worst news of their life at the end of June, just a few weeks ago. After Matthew noticed something different about 21-month-old Reuben’s left eye they started a series of appointments that ended with diagnosis of Retinoblastoma, a fairly rare cancer of the eyes, of which he has tumors on both eyes. We are encouraged that the doctors claim retinoblastoma to be “very treatable” and we are thankful that his MRI shows that it has not spread anywhere else. We are also grateful that one of the most acclaimed doctor’s for this diagnosis is at a medical facility in Houston, a 3 ½ hour drive from their home in Dallas, where he can receive state of the art treatment. Already they’ve had a few nights in the hospital for testing, a few nights in a hotel in Houston for further diagnosis and to develop a treatment plan. The full treatment regimen will begin next week for Reuben and will continue for 6 months.
This family needs our support. We all feel helpless, I know, but we can help elevate one very big stress; the financial stress of missing work and keeping up with everyday bills along with the added expense of gas, food, hotel and so on. Let’s bless them so that they can be 100% focused on Reuben’s treatment and conquering this horrific disease.
Hilliary and Matthew so appreciate the love and support they’ve received so far through thoughtful phone calls, cards, texts, Facebook messages, and your prayers. Every gesture of love and support is felt and they appreciate each one of you.
Thank you in advance for your generosity.
