This summer, I’ll be joining a group of volunteers to collaborate with St. Orsola Catholic Mission Hospital Matiri, Kenya — a small but vital hospital that provides essential care to its rural community with very limited resources.
The hospital generously offers to host volunteers at no cost, and that gesture of hospitality inspired me to launch this fundraising campaign — not just to give back, but to go further than what I could contribute on my own. By raising more, we can thank them with real support: funding urgent needs and helping sustain this opportunity for future volunteers as well.
You can learn more about the hospital here:
- Why This Project Matters
Every day, the team at St. Orsola cares for patients who often have no other access to medical treatment. Despite severe shortages in medication, equipment, and staff, the hospital remains a cornerstone of healthcare in the region — offering maternity care, emergency services, surgery, and outpatient treatment to thousands.
Our goal isn’t to bring external “solutions,” but to support and strengthen the incredible work that’s already happening on the ground. We'll be there to assist, learn, and contribute in meaningful, concrete ways.
- A Bit About Me
I’m Federico, an italian osteopath, graduated from Kingston University, and currently in my second year of medical school in the University of Catania.
While studying medicine, I also work — balancing both in order to support my education and future career in healthcare.
This August, I’ll spend two weeks volunteering at St. Orsola, doing whatever I can to support the local team — whether it’s hands-on help, sharing what I know, or learning from their invaluable experience.
- What Your Donation Supports
We’re raising €4,500, which will go directly toward:
Purchasing essential medications and medical supplies
Supporting the hospital’s staff and future volunteer programs, in recognition of their free hosting and generosity.
Put simply: this campaign is my way of multiplying the impact of what I could offer alone, so that we can give back more for their hospitality and contribute to what the hospital truly needs.
- A Project with Long-Term Impact
This isn’t just a one-time trip — it’s the first step in an ongoing collaboration to support under-resourced community healthcare through shared knowledge, service, and solidarity.
My hope is that this initiative can open the door for other students, professionals, and volunteers to join in future years — and that we can build something lasting, together.
