Let's Support "Miles For Matria"

For the last six (6) months, we (Tanya and Aida) have been collaborating on a volunteer project with a group of Boricua women from the San Francisco Bay Area to support the work of Proyecto Matria, a feminist and human rights organization in Puerto Rico that works with survivors of gender-based violence including people in the LGBTQ+ communities.

Matria’s approach transcends the traditional view of survivors of gender-based violence as “victims” who need assistance. Their commitment to human rights is reflected in services geared to fulfill their participants' various needs through self-empowerment and developing their capacity for self-sufficiency and economic independence.

Our goal is to help organize a walkathon named “Miles for Matria” or “Millas por Matria,” which will take place in San Francisco on March 25th, 2023, to raise money, make the organization known to the Bay Area community and generate enthusiasm to support Matria’s work.

As walkers in “Miles for Matria”, we will be representing all those who believe organizations like Matria should continue to thrive in providing services to women and communities that have long been underserved.

Durante los últimos seis (6) meses, nosotras (Tanya y Aida) hemos estado colaborando en un proyecto de voluntariado con un grupo de mujeres boricuas del Área de la Bahía de San Francisco para apoyar el trabajo de Proyecto Matria, una organización feminista y de derechos humanos en Puerto Rico que trabaja con sobrevivientes de violencia de género, incluidas personas de las comunidades LGBTQ+.

Nuestro objetivo es ayudar a organizar una caminata llamada “Millas por Matria” o “Miles for Matria”, que se llevará a cabo en San Francisco el 11 de marzo de 2023, para recaudar dinero, dar a conocer la organización a la comunidad del Área de la Bahía y generar entusiasmo para apoyar el trabajo de Matria.
