Earlier this week I came across something that honestly broke my heart.
John is 89 years old and had been driving the same car for over 15 years. While travelling on the motorway, his car broke down and he was forced to pull onto the hard shoulder. Unfortunately, John had left his phone at home, so he had no way to call for help.
For two hours, he stood there in the rain on the hard shoulder with only his zimmer frame for support. Cars were passing at motorway speed, making it incredibly dangerous for him to even be there. Despite the weather and the obvious risk to his safety, no one had stopped to check if he was okay.
When I saw him, I couldn’t just drive past. No 89-year-old should be left standing alone in the rain on a motorway, especially in such a dangerous situation. I stopped to help him get to safety and made sure he wasn’t left alone anymore.
Meeting John really stuck with me. He’s kind, grateful, and just someone who found himself in a frightening situation with no way to get help.
This fundraiser is about more than just helping John — it’s about restoring faith in humanity and showing that people still care. Any support will go towards helping John get back on his feet, covering the costs caused by the breakdown, and making sure he has the support he needs moving forward.
If you can donate, even a small amount, it would mean the world. And if you can’t donate, simply sharing John’s story helps remind people that kindness still exists.
Let’s show John that he isn’t alone.
