Let’s Rebuild the Heart of Yura Tulum

We are raising funds to rebuild the kitchen and repair the main shala at Yura Tulum, a sacred community space in the jungle of Mexico.

After four years of natural wear and tear, and with little resources for large-scale renovations, the roof of our kitchen fully collapsed, and the main structure of the shala is now severely compromised. The materials used in both spaces are natural and beautiful — made of guano palm — but they require regular maintenance, and without proper care, they degrade rapidly under the jungle’s climate.

Since we took over the project in November, Yura has been rising from an abandoned state into a living, breathing community space. Even with all the challenges — including caring for a newborn baby — we’ve managed to restore sustainability, host transformational events, welcome volunteers, and keep the fire of this vision alive.

But now we’ve reached a critical point.

To continue this work and prepare the space for the upcoming season of retreats and gatherings, we must rebuild the entire kitchen roof, replace the deteriorated parts of the shala, and invest in materials and labor to ensure safety, functionality, and beauty.

This space is held and nurtured by Ariê and Gabriela, currently the only active guardians and co-creators of Yura. All previous partners have stepped away, and it is now up to us — the extended community — to decide whether Yura will continue to grow or be forced to shut down.
