My name is Evelyn Valeria Torres Vidal. I am originally from Concepción, Chile, and I have been living in Australia for the past two years. Watching what my city is going through right now—from so far away—has been incredibly painful and heartbreaking.
Friends, neighbors, and people I grew up with have lost their entire neighborhoods. Many families have lost their homes, and some have even lost loved ones. Seeing my city, my people, and my community suffering like this is something I never imagined.
Unfortunately, I am not able to travel to Chile at this moment to help in person. But what I can do is try to help from here. Many people are already sending water, food, and clothing, which is incredibly important. However, what is most urgently needed now is to rebuild homes.
Families need basic tools—shovels, gloves, and materials—to clear debris and begin the long and difficult process of rebuilding. The biggest challenge is time. Winter is approaching quickly. Here in Australia, especially in Melbourne, we experience a very similar climate. Rain will arrive soon, and March is a critical deadline for many families to have at least a roof over their heads before winter sets in.
There are hundreds of families affected. We know we cannot help everyone—but if together we can help even a few families rebuild their homes, that support will mean everything to them.
Chile is a beautiful country, but it is also very expensive. Most of the people affected come from low-income communities and do not have the resources to rebuild on their own.
I am asking for your help—by donating, sharing this campaign, or simply spreading the word. Even the smallest contribution makes a difference.
Please help me help them.
Together, let’s rebuild Concepción.
