Hi, my name's Martin Morrison, and Matty is my son.

Until August 2020, we were an ordinary family. I've got three children, and Matty is my eldest. He was studying for a degree in a prestigious music school, loved producing music under the name of Nyhavo, and was a keen skateboarder. Then he had an accident in the skatepark, and his life changed forever. A mild concussion caused him to have a seizure, and scans showed that he had a large brain tumour.

Within a fortnight or so, he was undergoing brain surgery to have the tumour removed and then spent the worst weeks of his life recuperating in the hospital in almost constant pain. Whereas other youngsters get to celebrate their twenty-first birthdays by having parties, eating out, and celebrating with friends, Matty's celebration involved managing to walk to the hospital window to see his family and friends holding a banner in the street!

That was 18 months ago and unfortunately, the tumour came back more aggressively, and he has been fighting it ever since. During that time, I have raised funds for Brain Tumour Research, and I will probably continue to do so for the rest of my days, but I want to raise funds for my son. He deserves as much as I can raise, so he can spend it on whatever he wants. Will you help me?

Everyone's heard of cancer, but nobody ever thinks it is going to happen to them. Well, as we've found out it does. Matty's courage, positive mental attitude, and resilience have inspired me. Even though I am more than twice his age, he has shown me how to live and how to face adversity. The main photo shows him outside the hospital in the days before his surgery. What a smile!
