Lets Keep Royal Canadian Legion 93 Oromocto Alive

Is the Royal Canadian Legion Oromocto Branch #93, important to our community?  Yes!! Branch #93 has been located at 284 Restigouche Road, Oromocto, NB dating back to the 1950s. We host the annual Remembrance Poppy Campaign and the annual Remembrance Day Parade and Ceremony.  The Legion supports military veterans, serving and retired, RCMP, 4 cadet units, and our community youths and seniors. This is just a short version of what we do and something we have done with much pride and success over the years.  The Legion and the town have always enjoyed taking part in events together and this support has been greatly appreciated by both organizations.

The Legion is a Not-For-Profit organization run entirely by volunteers. Operational funding is strictly through bar sales, fundraising, catering and donations. We provide hall rentals and the Ladies Auxiliary host events from weddings to funerals and many things in between.  We operate a fully functioning kitchen for catering as well as a licensed bar.  Additionally, we support many events such as darts, shuffleboard, golf, various card leagues and youth sports teams.  The Legion provides a daily gathering venue for Veteran members and their friends, including our popular Friday musical jam sessions and kitchen delights.

As we, the local community and globally, are experiencing a terrible health pandemic that has closed many businesses and left many people unemployed, this tragedy has hit us with a heavy hand.  Being a Not-For-Profit organization we operate solely on our monthly income.  As with everyone, due to the Covid-19 Social Distancing requirements, we had to close our doors, laying off workers and squeeze the value out of every nickel.  The Executive Committee has done all we can to cut down on monthly expenses, however, there still remains many bills that arise every month and with no income, they cannot be paid out.  The monthly expense to keep the Legion doors open and operating is approximately ten thousand dollars ($10,000.00) a month.

In these trying times, without support, we are in jeopardy of not meeting our financial responsibilities, creating the possibility of Branch closure and the inability to continue support to our Veterans and community that we are known for.

Please consider supporting your well-deserved Veterans. Every donation, large or small will help. Please feel free to share this with friends and family.

Thank you.
