My auntie Yesther, born in 1954, (71 years old) was the first child of my grandparents. She helped raise her 10 younger siblings and was always the “cool aunt” to us. I remember how she would slip a dollar into our piggy banks, share chocolates, and play games with me and my cousins. Family gatherings were always brighter with her.
Over 10 years ago, she was diagnosed with a brain tumor. Despite the doctors’ limited prognosis, she has fought through the years with strength and the support of her only daughter, who cares for her full-time.
Recently, she suffered a serious fall that left her hospitalized for three days. The doctors explained that, because of her tumor, surgery to stop the bleeding in her brain would be too risky. Since then, she has lost mobility on one side of her body, is intermittently lucid, and now depends on insulin, diapers, and additional medications.
My family and I are doing everything we can to support her, but the costs of medicine, food, and basic care are more than we can cover alone. Any help you can give—no matter the amount—will make a difference for my auntie Yesther and her daughter who cares for her day and night.
Even though I am far away in the U.S., this is one way I can still support her from here. From the bottom of my heart, thank you for reading, sharing, or contributing. Your kindness means the world to us. God bless you!
