Let's Help Rose Die with Dignity
Donation protected
Hello! My name is Gigi. Two years ago pretty much to the day in 2022, I launched a GoFundMe campaign to help two women, Rose and Rhonda, get off the streets and find a permanent home, which was a prerequisite for Rose having surgery for re-attaching her skull, which was removed in 2021 to treat a subdermal hematoma. Rose survived the surgery, which the doctors found in time ... but they also discovered that Rose had leukemia.
The doctors started treating her leukemia and said that before Rose could undergo the surgery to re-attach her skull, she needed to have a stable home environment. That was our goal two years ago.
Thanks to the generosity and kindness of many people, Rose and Rhonda moved to an apartment that we furnished completely with donations. Their situation was stable enough that Rhonda could go back to housecleaning to take care of her and Rose.
Unfortunately, Rose's leukemia did not get better but worsened. She never became healthy enough to re-attach her skull, which has been cryogenically stored, back into place. Her leukemia has spread, and she is now in hospice.
Rhonda has postponed her housecleaning work to care for Rose, whose days are limited. At this point, our priority now is to keep Rose comfortable, make her feel loved and cherished, and allow Rhonda, who has been sleeping on the floor at Rose's side, to remain with her and support her until the inevitable end.
We are raising money to compensate for Rhonda's loss of wages at this time, but also to cover funeral expenses for Rose.
While I am happy to report that Rose and Rhonda have had a very good life these last two years and have been extremely grateful to all who helped—and it really does take a village—I am heartbroken to begin this fundraising campaign.
I so wanted their story to have a happy ending. And maybe the last two years have been their happy ending ... not being forced to stand on street corners and beg for money, have a TV for entertainment (thanks to a donor), and not worry about where their next meal was coming from.
I have learned a lot about homelessness and humanity in the past two years, mostly that people are good, and ask that you give if you can to help Rose on this next stage of her journey and go home with dignity.
Thank you in advance for your kindness.
