Hi! Hola! Hej hej! My name is Monica, and my neighbors and I are raising money to gift our dear neighbor Mark a motorized wheelchair. Mark is a pillar in our community. As a retired engineer, Mark uses his expertise and knowledge to help anyone in the neighborhood who needs assistance (always free and always in good spirits). From helping to fix computers (and teaching you along the way too!) to lending tools, lawnmowers, etc. to opening his pool to the neighborhood kids and their families during the summer for decades- Mark is an incredible person.

 

Unfortunately, Mark has not been in great health the last few months. Mark was diagnosed with Multiple sclerosis (MS) several years ago and has since had to leave his job as an engineer as his physical health diminished. We recently learned that Mark's health has been significantly impacted by lack of sleep. When we asked Mark more about what was happening, he shared that his MS no longer allows him to transfer himself to his bed from his wheelchair. When we asked what Mark needed he reluctantly joked that he needed a wheelchair with hydraulics that will allow for up and down movement. Unfortunately, Mark's health insurance does NOT cover a hydraulic wheelchair because they do not view up/down movement as necessary (major side eye), and Mark is on a fixed income without the ability to buy one for himself.  BUT, this is where community comes in!
