Australian Medical Mission to Yumbe, Uganda

We are proud to announce that our colleague, Malak, will join a medical mission in Yumbe, Uganda, in collaboration with the Global Medical Fund.

About Malak:
Malak is a full‑time Registered Nurse in one of Sydney’s busiest emergency departments. By day, she provides critical care to patients; by night, she passionately supports two teenagers as a dedicated single mother. Over the past year, she served in Gaza, Palestine, delivering care to injured women and children under severely constrained resources. Now, she has volunteered her expertise to support the refugee population in Uganda.

Mission Details:

Travel Dates: Departing Sydney on June 26, 2025, and returning on July 6, 2025

Team Composition: 29 volunteers from Australia, the USA, the UK, Turkey, Syria, and Iraq

Destination: Yumbe district, West Nile region—a host to over 635,000 refugees, primarily from South Sudan and the Democratic Republic of Congo

Scope of Services:
Volunteers will provide a comprehensive range of medical and humanitarian support, including:

Orthopaedic and abdominal surgeries

Women’s health services

Childhood immunizations

General medical assessments

Dental and optometry care

First aid training

Health education and broader humanitarian assistance

Funding Overview:
This mission is entirely self-funded by the volunteers. All expenses—airfares, transportation, accommodation, meals, hygiene supplies, and water—are covered by team members. Medical equipment has been procured through generous donations to the organisation.
