Let's help Janice

Hi, my name is Darla, and I'm fundraising for my "baby" sister, Janice. It’s been a difficult year for one of the kindest and most loving people I know. Nine months ago her beloved husband of 27 years, Jerry, died unexpectedly. This meant not only losing the love of her life, but also her companion, helper, mechanic, builder, plumber, business partner and so much more. Since Jerry’s death, she’s also endured the passing of two cherished cats, and those of you who know Janice understand how devastating these losses were for her. We’ve offered what support we could as she’s endured these sorrows, recognizing how little we could do. But now she is facing some practical issues, and there are ways others can help.

Amidst some needed construction work on their house, Janice learned that the addition done by the previous homeowner had serious flaws. Things looked good on the surface for many years, but now significant problems have been revealed. In addition to a collapsed ceiling, a severe mold problem, and roof damage, there is rotted wood on the joists of the ceiling and the walls. Every new bit that's exposed shows more problems. The contractor who looked at it gave an estimate beyond what is possible for Janice. Home-owners insurance was denied due to it being a long-term rot problem, rather than a weather-related issue. Janice fought and got a small amount, but the estimate just for framing and sheet-rocking is at least five times the amount she received from her insurance.

Here's where we come in. Anyone willing and able to pitch in with any of the construction would be most welcome, to cut down on the overall cost. Also, getting a contractor right now is difficult, and some things must be done right away. For many of us, such help isn’t an option, but we can support Janice by contributing financially.
