The “why” explained:

I’m only doing what I know I’m supposed to do and follow the footsteps of the most amazing woman to me, Pat Leak’s daughter. PS. 76 alum, etc. For those of you that know, I grew up in Harlem and I went to church on 122nd St. and 7th. Christian Parish for Spiritual Renewal. That’s where my grandmother attended; my mother went there, my brothers and sister, my cousins, and childhood friends. And my family still frequents the church today. How many times have you walked down the block past the church? It’s been there for years. And even if you’re not from there, it’s OK. This message is still for you.

I visited the area in July, and while everything around Harlem is being upgraded the church still looked the same, except the new bullet holes that adorn the front entrance. The same sign is on the wall from my elementary school days. It’s time to give back. The church is in need of a new sign and some minor upgrades inside and out. So, I’m asking all of you- you know me and know my heart. I have to start this initiative to support the cause. The goal is $20,000. The timeframe is 60 days. It’s not hard. I’m confident that with sharing this message to your friends and family that we can do it in less than that. Please share this, continue to share it. Not just once, send reminders because life happens and we tend to forget. I know times are difficult and times are hard; however, if we can buy that $5 cup of Starbucks, or order DoorDash, etc. we can make this happen. Counting on your support.
