The Waldo Hub's 'Let's Grow Waldo (a community garden project)' is designed to not only beautify the Waldo urban landscape but also to bring area neighbors together in community to meet and utilize this new growing resource. Our gardens will provide a new location within the neighborhood to bring neighbors together for a great purpose with positive impacts beyond Waldo.
The first five (5) raised bed (12'x4'x8") planters will be on along Wornall Road on the South end of our property and will provide an immediate visual improvement in the local landscape along Wornall. Partner provider, Kansas City Community Gardens will build and provide the seeds and plants for each raised planting bed. Waldo Hub & West Waldo Neighborhood Association volunteers, along with a part-time staff, Gardener/coordinators will maintain- weed and water per KCCG Partner Guidelines until harvest. KCCG will inspect and consult.
We will have Phase1 (Wornall side) started by mid-May, 2022. The $9,000 will fund the costs to build, plant and maintain. The total project cost is $25,000 and we already have a 30% private-foundation grant which covers excavating the concrete parking lot and building new curbing.
Phase 1 beds will be planted with; 1. Salsa garden, 2. Marinara garden, 3. Sweet potato, 4-5 Pollinator Flowers Butterflies & Hummingbirds.
Our Mission and Purpose is to operate a neighborhood center that connects area nonprofits with Waldo residents (and residents to nonprofits) to increase access to wellness, culture and community.
We are opening a new Non-profit Center in 2022 (Summer), and your support will plant the seed to affirm our goals and begin a long commitment to meeting our Mission and support Waldo.
