BRAIN CANCER DOESN'T WAIT.
NEITHER SHOULD WE.
Every year, brain cancer claims more lives than melanoma and ovarian cancer combined in Australia.
* Kills more kids than any other disease
* 5-year survival rate: just 23%
* Glioblastoma survival: only 4.6%
* 80% of patients die within 5 years
There's no prevention. No early detection.
And still-underfunded.
Brain cancer doesn't wait. My dad passed away just 10 weeks after diagnosis. No cure. No time. No roadmap. That's why awareness matters. That's why access matters. That's why we ride!

Leila is a 20-year-old woman who’s taking on the legendary Tatts Finke Desert Race this June—not just for the thrill or chasing the finish line, but for something much bigger. She’s racing to raise awareness for brain cancer, a cause close to her and her best friend, Sophia’s, heart. It’s a devastating diagnosis that affects thousands of Australians every year. With only just one month to make an impact, she’s using her passion for dirtbike racing to fuel a powerful movement: “Go Grey for May.”

With such a short window every bit of awareness counts. Leila and Sophia are asking for the community to stand behind this cause—sharing stories, spreading the message, and helping amplify voices. It’s all about doing something you love for someone you love—riding with purpose, showing support, and bringing attention to the emotional and human side of cancer.

OUR STORY….
On May 28th Leila & I will be heading out west to the iconic Tatts Finke Desert Race. It’s one of the toughest off-road events in the world. Leila will be racing a total of 460km across the desert on June 6-7. Six months ago, while camping in Kenilworth, Leila decided that she wanted to learn how to ride dirtbikes. Two days later she brought herself a dirt bike. She’s been teaching herself how to ride ever since. Along with the help of the very welcoming biking community and amazing friends she’s met along the way.

Leila and I have shared some epic adventures—from beachside campouts to
bush ventures—but this next one’s our biggest yet. Leila’s training like a machine—gym, pilates, boxing—while still running her own business breaking in and training horses. Having being only 20 years old and riding for a short period of time. People have voiced that she wouldn’t be able to do it. She’s determined to prove them wrong.

This race is more than a challenge—it’s a tribute. May is Brain Cancer Awareness Month. We’re honouring my dad, Bruce Marian, who passed away just 10 weeks after being diagnosed with terminal Glioblastoma. It is a highly aggressive type of brain tumor with no known cure.

In my Dads final weeks of his life, he was told to start ticking off his bucket list. With this he smiled and said “I’ve been doing that my whole life”. Although knowing what the future held for himself. He sat with honour, pride and zero regrets in his life. Having fulfilled his bucket list long before his passing has been something that has inspired Leila and myself. His final days were full of music, food, beer, and ocean breezes—his kind of ‘love’.

What that cancer did to my dad was pure evil and I wouldn't wish it apon anyone. The thing is though, thousands of families experience what my family did. We were very fortunate in the fact that we had an amazing support group to help us. But unfortunately there is a lot of families in Australia that don't know what help to look or ask for. We want to share what we were given. Because these people that are going through this life limiting illness deserve so much more!

We’re raising funds for groups that my dad, Bruce Marian, wanted to give back thanks too. They helped my family and dad immensely in those final weeks. Aswell as groups that are struggling which Leila has seen first hand while working out west. We are forever grateful that Leila has gifted us this space in honouring my dad’s final wishes

The money that we raise will be distributed amongst two local foundations and two foundations that support rural and remote communities in Queensland. Choosing these as they have helped my family and dad in his final weeks and for rural communities Leila saw struggle while working out west. Out there, support is scarce and families are often left behind.

* Ambulance Wish QLD – helps fulfil the last wishes of Queenslanders living with life limiting illnesses. They gave Bruce one last perfect beach day.
* Katie Rose Cottage – a peaceful 24/7 hospice in Doonan that welcomed us with open arms even though we ended up caring for him at our home.
* Palliative Care QLD – supporting end-of-life care across the state between rural and urban populations.

This isn’t just for my Dad—it’s for every family facing this fight and feeling alone. Awareness changes lives. Access saves them. Let’s do more. This community deserves it.
