Joseph (my son - 11years old) and I are embarking on a challenge and we need your help!
Between us both, we are going to complete the distance from Gloucester to DisneyLand Paris (337miles by foot)!
We will cover this by walking, running, biking, swimming, hiking and anything else we can think of!!!
We are doing it for this beautiful family who are having to face the unthinkable!
Joseph and I are so thankful for Hazel and her family that we felt it was only right to help them make a dream come true!
Here’s an important message from Hazel:
Just after my 39th birthday I was diagnosed with stage 3 lung cancer and although it's treatable, it isn't curable. I have been told to expect to live for a further few years, if treatment is successful. However, we have already hit some stumbling blocks with treatment due to my medical history.
Back in 2021, just 7 months after giving birth to my third son, I was diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer. It was stage 2 and despite being aggressive, things looked positive for treatment. They threw everything at it, chemotherapy, surgery and radiotherapy. After the treatment ended I was given the all clear, and went back to work and raising my boys alongside my husband.
Just three years later, around my 39th birthday, a chest x-ray showed a shadow, and after several further tests we were told I had cancer again. A whole new cancer had started in my lung, right behind the location of my previous breast cancer. This time it was stage 3, and whilst treatable, I was told it wouldn't be curable. I was advised that successful treatment could give me about 3 - 5 years, but surgery wasn't a possibility this time. Ideally I would have radiotherapy and chemotherapy combined, but because of the location being so close to the last cancer, and the relatively recent radiotherapy to the same area of my chest, the risk to my chest structures was too high.
One positive finding from all the tests on this cancer is that it is EGFR positive, allowing me to have targeted drug therapy for as long as my body can manage, until it stops being responsive to it. The hope now is to shrink the cancer to allow the radiotherapy treatment, to give me as long as possible to keep living and raising my boys.
When we knew the extent of the condition and my prognosis, me and my husband had to have the most heartbreaking conversation with our children, explaining that I had cancer again, and whilst I would have treatment, it wouldn't be cured like last time and that I would likely only have a few years left. We promised the children and ourselves to make the most of the time we have left together, I want to make lots of happy memories for the boys and my husband to look back on after I'm gone.
This cancer is taking away my chance to make a lifetime of happy memories with my children and husband, of raising my boys into adults and watching them grow. Any help we can get to make some of those dreams come true would be amazing.
We have updated the target now as we have found the perfect hotel for the whole family!
Thought it would be good to share with you the costs.
Travel - £653
Accomodation - £2227
Park tickets - £1081
Additional costs over the above would mean the family could experience a lunch at agrabah cafe, (Hazel watched Aladdin a lot as a child..!)
Money would also go towards snacks/coffees/drinks/souvenirs - especially photos for the children from DisneyLand Paris so they have some keepsakes and memories of their mum.
Additional money would mean the family could get to explore Paris for a couple of days where they will visit some landmarks and attraction. This was an additional dream but with everyone’s kindness so far I believe this could become a reality too!
Please help us in any way you can. If you are unable to donate, sharing this page is super powerful and important too!
I hope you can see how much this would mean to Hazel and her beautiful boys!!
