Let's Find Camelot Together

Hello. My name is Cassandra and I have an idea that I think can change the world. Right before my 29th birthday, in 2011, I had a brain stem stroke that left me a partial quadriplegic. This event served as the catalyst that would change everything that I thought I knew about the world and everything I thought I knew about myself. It has given me a unique perspective on the challenges we are facing as a global society:
- Unrealistic Labor Expectations
- Economic Polarization
- Political Polarization
- Generational Trauma
The absence of modern societal pressures in my life allowed me to grow in unexpected ways. It also gave me the time necessary to develop a comprehensive approach to making this opportunity available to more people and address these core issues.
The idea started forming in late 2015, and early 2016 and has cumulated in the founding of Finding Camelot. We are a nonprofit that is dedicated to improving the quality of life for the working classes by establishing a network of publicly owned housing. The general concept is a take on socialism that we are calling Domestic Socialism; it integrates seamlessly with the capitalist economy of the United States to strengthen it and provide support to the people who need it Participation is completely voluntary and we operate with minimal government involvement. Instead of rent, accommodations are provided as a part of the monthly membership fee. This fee is adjustable and includes:
- Private Lodging for One Adult
- All City Utilities
- Basic Streaming and Delivery Services
- Communal Lodging for Dependents
- Grocery Budget Supplement
- All Childcare Costs
I have a general direction, when it comes to the logistical concerns of cohabitation, but my theories need to be tested before I can assess what works and what doesn't. The ultimate goal is to develop guidelines for household management and member relationships that will allow a smooth operations, regardless of the individual members in residence. There is more information available on our website.
That’s what I need help with. Our flagship facility will house our first members; it will also serve as the headquarters of our nonprofit organization. We will use social media to document the journey and to generate interest in the mission.
Once people can see it working we will use the donations to buy, build, and renovate properties. The member dues of each property are structured to cover all of the operating expenses and they are never to be allocated for anything but the household they are collected from. I want to raise money for the first project so I can show the world that it works.
