Hi, my name is Dhruv Joshi, I am a year 11 student who is blessed enough to receive an incredible educational experience. Unfortunately, some people aren't as lucky as I am and it's our job to give them a helping hand. Last December, my family and I went to India, while we were there, my parents were invited to talk at a special school where girls who lacked sufficient educational resources attended.
When my parents engaged in conversation with the girls, they were faced with some disturbing truths. One girl stated "I go home and have to feed all my siblings (her parents had passed), I do not have any time to study for school" Another stated "I would love to study at home but I don't have electricity let alone a book or a pen to write with". This was a harsh reality check for me, it opened my eyes to how privileged and lucky we are here in Adelaide and the opportunities we have through education. These girls were demoralised as they thought 'What's the point in studying if it will only make my situation worse?'. It saddened me to see the state of these kids who were all my age, but had nowhere near the opportunities I do. There was no shortage of talent or dreams amongst them, but there was a shortage of everything else...
I decided I wanted to make a difference, so I started a campaign called Educo. My first campaign will be running in the Adelaide Marathon on the 27th of August to raise $5000 towards the cause. This money will be spent on providing educational resources and aiding underprivileged female children with challenged backgrounds in India. My goal with Educo is to help these kids receive the same opportunities we do and enable them to thrive in their ways and make their contributions to the world. Their voices are suppressed, and we need to open our ears to them. Help me empower these kids through education!
