Let’s build a clean water well for a Cambodian village!

Earlier this year Marie and I were lucky enough to visit Cambodia. We were blown away by the experience. The beautiful scenery and unique culture makes Cambodia a very special, magical place. What impressed us most of all though was the sheer warmth, genuine kindness and generosity of the Cambodian people. I know times are pretty difficult here in the UK right now but compared to us most are really poor and have very little. Despite this they were happy to share with us whatever they could. As we ventured further into the countryside we could see that one of the biggest challenges for them is the lack of fresh clean water. Illness is rife due to villagers having to make do with contaminated water, and yet for just around $350 the village can have a proper fresh water well drilled and installed. Safe drinking water is something we don’t think twice about but it’s an absolute game changer for them.

So we met up with a lovely guy called Poy Pines. When he’s not working as a brilliant tour guide he spends much of his spare time trying to improve the lives of the villagers, and he’s collaborated with some generous Western families in fund raising and getting new wells drilled and installed. We have also been introduced to a lovely lady from the States, Brynda Hatch who has already funded four wells. Here’s the link to images of the great work they have been doing. https://photos.app.goo.gl/5upRabaQ7Ev2uYMF8

Marie and I want to help in whatever way we can, and we have decided to fund a well for one of the villages. We get to be involved with who benefits and where it will be installed so will guarantee your donations are put to good use. Although not a small sum of money, we can see first hand how it can make a dramatic difference to the lives of those lovely people, especially the children.

Now here’s the thing – we know our friends are a kind and generous lot and so we are going to start a crowdfunder to see if we can all get together to buy a second well! Is there anyone else up for having their name or a little Cornwall flag on a well in the middle of a village in Cambodia? Even if you just chuck in a fiver, (the price of a pint), those fivers add up and just 53 contributors at a fiver each will buy a well, and drinking water for the villagers for life! So come on – let’s put a smile on the face of a few more Cambodian kids and safe clean water in their bellies!
