They say lightning doesn't strike the same place twice... Unfortunately for the Evers, that wasn't the case.
In October 2015, Kevin and Christie lost their first-born son, Noah Anthony, 8 hours after birth to a condition known as Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia (CDH). After that, doctors assured them that the odds were in their favor if they wanted to have additional children. Their second son, Graham William, was born in March 2017, happy, healthy, and had the fullest head of jet black hair any of us have ever seen! But in 2019, at their 20-week appointment with son number three, they learned this child, too, has CDH.
Rather than dwell on how totally not fair this is, Kevin and Christie spent a ton of time praying for this child, learning more about his condition, and researching their options. Most of their efforts ended with single doctor's name at a single hospital... It became clear to them that this was no coincidence. They hopped on a plane and headed to meet Dr. David Kays at John's Hopkins All Children's Hospital in St. Petersburg, Florida... The doctor that will save their son's life.
Kevin, Christie, and Graham recently made the trek to Florida and are staying in a room at a Ronald McDonald house. Christie will be induced in early February, and immediately after he is born, Soren Lucas will undergo a sequence of procedures to keep him alive and repair his diaphragm. Mom and dad won't even get to hold him after delivery, and big brother Graham won't get to meet him for a while... But it'll be SO worth the wait.
Between ImpactClub Fox Cities, Elevate920, the Little Chute Jaycees, and all the other philanthropic/volunteerism work they do, Kevin and Christie are two of the most incredible, selfless people on this planet. It's a known fact that good people surround themselves with other good people...
Although they would never ask for help, I know they have a huge network of other amazing people I can count on to help me give back to THEM for once.
Many people have been asking how they can help, and this is it! Any money we raise will help cover Soren's medical bills, which will be even more important as neither of them will be able to work while they're in Florida.
