Let's Beat Period Poverty!

Did you know that women and other menstruators spend nearly 10 years of their lives on their period? That amounts to over 17,000 feminine hygiene products that we are burdened to buy and use during our lifetime. With over 500 million individuals suffering from period poverty around the world each day, it's time to help them survive a natural process.
Even though people like you and I are lucky enough to be able to afford feminine hygiene products like tampons or pads on a daily basis, there are millions of women around the world and even in our own neighborhoods that aren’t so fortunate we are. With that in mind, before the COVID19 outbreak, 20% of menstruators in the United States struggled to have adequate access to sanitary feminine hygiene products. As the pandemic started to take strides, unemployment skyrocketed and the supply of feminine hygiene products in community-based programs thinned out. Consequently, more menstruators have fallen into the pit of period poverty, forcing them to to use alternative unsanitary items like socks or pieces of cardboard during their cycles. Often missing school and risking health complications, millions of young menstruators around the world are sacrificing their bright futures just to survive a natural process. This is a problem; one's ability to afford and access feminine hygiene products is a necessity, NOT a luxury.
Therefore, this fundraiser organized by PERIOD @ Hinsdale, IL (a chapter of the national PERIOD Inc. non-profit organization) aims to give back to nearby communities by providing feminine hygiene products to those in need. Your donations will help to purchase and distribute feminine hygiene products to local shelters, pantries, and organizations.
