Edna Bendel needs our help. She came to Carmel from NYC over 20 years ago after a fascinating career in the art world. She became a familiar figure to many Carmelites over the years, having worked in retail at a number of Carmel stores. She and her border collie, Harry, and later her little Chihuahua mix, Oscar, have been well known and loved by residents and visitors too. While she lost her beloved Oscar recently, he was quickly replaced with a lovely Peace of Mind rescue dog named Zephyr (in the picture).
Edna lost her home of many years 7 years ago due to increasing rent and has been in a small studio in Carmel Woods since then. Though she continued to work until COVID, she has been beset with a number of crippling health issues. Recently, she had spinal surgery but, with very limited mobility still to use a walker. She tries to live on her Social Security, but since she can’t work anymore, this has become impossible.
Edna is a very stoic person, but, at 83 and without any family, she needs some extra help with chores and medical expenses. Her close friends have been providing a lot of support over the years but inflation has taken its toll. Any financial help you can provide will make a huge difference in the life of a worthy lady in our community and to her new little dog Zephyr.
Thanks for your kind assistance.
