For centuries, the bells of St. Mary’s Church have rung out across Cardigan—marking weddings, celebrating local events, calling the community together, and tolling in remembrance. Their sound is woven into the very heart of our town’s heritage.

But today, these cherished bells are at risk of falling silent.

We are the Bell Ringing Band at St. Mary’s Church, a group of local volunteers dedicated to preserving this proud tradition. Our team is part of the Bell Ringers Guild, and we operate as part of a registered charity working to maintain and pass on the art and culture of bell ringing to future generations.

Unfortunately, the bells are now in urgent need of repair. After decades of faithful service, the mechanisms that allow them to ring safely and clearly are worn and damaged. Without restoration, we risk losing them—possibly for good.

The Cost

Restoring the bells at St. Mary’s will cost an estimated £20,000. This includes structural work, repairs to the bell frames, fittings, and essential safety measures. While we are applying for grants and holding local fundraisers, we can’t do it alone—we need help from those who care about Cardigan’s history, music, and community spirit.
