Hi, my name is Amy and my dad has stage 4 cancer. He’s 66 and still working 40 hours a week just to survive. His state pension doesn’t cover the cost of essential medication — treatment not available through the NHS — but it’s what we believe has kept him alive for the past six years.
In 2019, he was given just 18 months to live. But thanks to this alternative treatment, his sheer willpower, and the love he has for his family, he has defied the odds and kept going. He’s still fighting — but he can’t keep doing it alone.
He currently lives alone in a rural part of the country, far from me. The NHS Trust in his area has been classified as being “in crisis,” and the treatment he’s receiving reflects that. Despite requesting a transfer, he’s been denied due to internal contracts and bureaucratic blocks. Meanwhile, here in Manchester, we have The Christie — one of the best cancer hospitals in Europe — just minutes from my home. If he could move here, he would not only receive far better care, but he’d finally have his family close by to support him.
But his situation is urgent. A recent brain scan revealed abnormalities affecting the parts of his brain responsible for mobility and coordination. He lives in a house that is no longer safe for someone in his condition. Yet despite all this, he gets up every day and goes to work — not because he wants to, but because he has no other option.
He has given everything for his three children. He raised us with love, humour, and strength. It breaks my heart that now, when he needs us most, I can't simply make everything right for him on my own.
This fundraiser will help cover the costs of relocating him to Manchester: moving expenses, a deposit and rent on a safe home, and any additional care and support he may need during the transition. It’s the first step toward giving him back some dignity — and a real chance at life.
If you can help, whether by donating, sharing, or simply reading and caring — thank you from the bottom of my heart.
