Let Love Shine Bright: Turning Vandalism into Aid
Donation protected
My name is Jordanna Riggs, and my family and I live in Westbury, a suburb of Houston. We bought our home in 2023, and invested in a Govee permanent light system. We love celebrating different holidays with our lights, and for the past two years, we have had rainbow lights on display for pride month.
Last year, a neighbor even posted our home on a local group thanking us for our lights, because it made their non-binary child feel seen and loved by the community. I had just posted about our display a few days ago in a local moms and ladies group, and the response was immensely positive. Unfortunately, the good vibes ended this evening when my husband realized that our lights were not on. At first I thought this was due to a recent phone upgrade, but upon inspection, it became apparent that someone had cut the wire to our lights.
I am broken hearted by someone stomping on the joy that we try to provide during Pride month. But when life gives you lemons...I've learned to make lemonade.
I want to show this bigot that their actions have actually led to more love for the LGBT community. I will be replacing the lights, and donating all the funds raised to The Trevor Project.
The Trevor Project is the world's largest suicide prevention and mental health organization for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer & questioning (LGBTQ) young people. The Trevor Project offers a suite of 24/7 crisis intervention and suicide prevention programs, including TrevorLifeline, TrevorText, and TrevorChat as well as the world's largest safe space social networking site for LGBTQ youth, TrevorSpace. Trevor also operates an education program with resources for youth-serving adults and organizations, an advocacy department fighting for pro-LGBTQ legislation and against anti-LGBTQ rhetoric/policy positions, and a research team to discover the most effective means to help young LGBTQ people in crisis and end suicide.
This organization has a 100% rating on the charity navigator website. This pride month, lets show our community that love wins.
