Why I’m Hosting Leslie’s Open Table

Hi, I’m Nathanael Jeffree, a local barber and small business owner here in Albury.

This Christmas, I’m hosting an event called Leslie’s Open Table — a free community BBQ at Oddies Creek Park on Christmas Day for anyone doing it tough, our vets, or anyone who might otherwise be spending the day alone.

Christmas has always been about family, food, and togetherness — but for so many people, that’s not the reality. Some are struggling, some have no family close by, and some are simply trying to make it through another year. I’ve seen it firsthand through my work at Modern Dapper Barbers — people walking in just needing a chat, a safe space, or to feel seen.

I wanted to do something about it. Something real.

So this year, we’re setting up BBQs, tables, and chairs in the park and opening it up to everyone. No strings attached. No judgments. Just good food, good people, and a place to belong.

We’re calling it Leslie’s Open Table — named in honour of someone who always believed that everyone deserves a seat at the table.

All funds raised will go directly towards food, drinks, park setup, and supplies to make sure everyone who comes along gets a meal, a smile, and a bit of Christmas joy.

Even the smallest contribution helps us make a big difference for those who need it most.
