León’s association for rehabilitating alcoholics needs you

Hi all,

I’m Sam.

I’m reaching out to you today in the hopes of helping a non-profit association in my local community, and also because this is a matter that personally affects me. León’s Association for Rehabilitating Alcoholics (A.R.L.E.) has lost key governmental funding and is facing closure.

I’m trying to help them avoid that by securing financial support to continue operations until they access new funding. I ask you to join me in this support.

While my father is now acting as the president, some years ago, he himself turned to the association when he decided to recover from an often overlooked but extremely dangerous addiction: alcoholism.

Alcohol was slowly destroying his life, taking away from us a cheerful, bright, talented man and a loving father.

What for some is just a simple social act, for others is a desperate escape from reality or a false boost to help deal with problems and pain. Alcohol becomes a shelter, a comforting lie and a familiar voice whispering false hope.

For those families and friends who have dealt closely with such situations, I have nothing but respect for them. The consequences of alcoholism touch on every aspect of the lives of the affected person and their loved ones. The frustration one feels while watching a loved one struggle with this is hard to put into words.

Luckily for us, we discovered A.R.L.E.

My dad started attending their programs and weekly sessions, and with the support of the two amazing therapists who work there, our family, and his fellow recovery peers, he managed to progress in his recovery and bring back the person we all love and cherish.

I myself visited the association at times and was surprised by the wide range of people who suffer the consequences of alcohol abuse: from bright young students to mothers who dedicated their lives to caring for others, and even people well past retirement age who couldn’t find another way to cope with loss. Unfortunately, no one is immune to falling into alcoholism in our society.

The recovery path for my dad was not an easy one and had painful turns and setbacks. The support and guidance that A.R.L.E. provided were instrumental for everyone involved, and I’ll be forever thankful for the change they brought back into my dad’s life and to all those around him.

If they don’t secure funds to continue paying their therapists and maintaining their facilities, they will have to stop operations within the next few months, leaving more than 300 patients and their families without the much-needed support of the association.

That’s a tragedy that I’m not willing to let happen.

I’m beyond grateful to A.R.L.E. and the people who make it possible, and I ask you to join me in contributing to their financial support while my father and others work hard to find future funding from public institutions.

Any contribution, big or small, will have an immense impact on the lives of the people who attend their programs, as well as on the lives of their children, partners, and friends.

And hey, I know that things out there are not easy and budgets are tight — it’s okay if you can’t contribute, but I ask you to please share this story and hopefully help us save A.R.L.E.

All the donated funds are gonna be directly transferred to the association’s account and will be used to continue their operations.

Hoy me pongo en contacto con vosotros con la esperanza de ayudar a una asociación sin ánimo de lucro en mi comunidad local, y también porque es un asunto que me afecta personalmente. La Asociación para la Rehabilitación de Alcohólicos de León (A.R.L.E.) ha perdido una financiación clave del gobierno y se enfrenta al cierre.

Estoy intentando ayudarles a evitarlo asegurando apoyo financiero para que puedan continuar sus operaciones hasta que consigan nuevos fondos. Os pido que os unáis a mí en este esfuerzo.

Aunque ahora mi padre es el presidente de la asociación, hace algunos años él mismo acudió a A.R.L.E. cuando decidió recuperarse de una adicción que a menudo se pasa por alto, pero que es extremadamente peligrosa: el alcoholismo.

El alcohol estaba destruyendo poco a poco su vida, arrebatándonos a un hombre alegre, brillante, talentoso y a un padre cariñoso.

Lo que para algunos es un simple acto social, para otros es una desesperada huida de la realidad o un falso impulso para afrontar problemas y dolor. El alcohol se convierte en un refugio, una mentira reconfortante y una voz familiar que susurra falsas esperanzas.

A las familias y amigos que han pasado de cerca por estas situaciones, no puedo más que expresarles mi respeto. Las consecuencias del alcoholismo afectan todos los aspectos de la vida de la persona afectada y de sus seres queridos. La frustración que se siente al ver a un ser querido luchar contra esto es difícil de poner en palabras.

Afortunadamente para nosotros, encontramos A.R.L.E.

Mi padre empezó a asistir a sus programas y sesiones semanales, y gracias al apoyo de los dos terapeutas increíbles que trabajan allí, de nuestra familia y de sus compañeros de recuperación, logró avanzar en su proceso y recuperar a la persona que todos amamos y valoramos.

Yo mismo visité la asociación en algunas ocasiones y me sorprendió la gran diversidad de personas que sufren las consecuencias del abuso del alcohol: desde jóvenes estudiantes brillantes hasta madres que dedicaron su vida a cuidar a otros, e incluso personas ya jubiladas que no encontraron otra forma de sobrellevar sus pérdidas. Por desgracia, nadie está completamente a salvo de caer en el alcoholismo en nuestra sociedad.

El camino de recuperación de mi padre no fue fácil y tuvo giros dolorosos y retrocesos. El apoyo y la orientación que A.R.L.E. brindó fueron fundamentales para todos los involucrados, y siempre estaré agradecido por el cambio que lograron en la vida de mi padre y de todos los que le rodean.

Si no consiguen fondos para seguir pagando a sus terapeutas y mantener sus instalaciones, tendrán que cerrar en los próximos meses, dejando a más de 300 pacientes y sus familias sin el apoyo tan necesario de la asociación.

Eso es una tragedia que no estoy dispuesto a permitir.

Estoy profundamente agradecido a A.R.L.E. y a las personas que lo hacen posible, y os pido que os unáis a mí para contribuir económicamente mientras mi padre y otros trabajan duro para conseguir financiación futura de las instituciones públicas.

Cualquier aportación, grande o pequeña, tendrá un impacto enorme en las vidas de las personas que asisten a sus programas, así como en las vidas de sus hijos, parejas y amigos.

Y bueno, sé que las cosas ahí fuera no son fáciles y que los presupuestos están ajustados; está bien si no podéis colaborar económicamente, pero os pido que por favor compartáis esta historia y, con suerte, nos ayudéis a salvar A.R.L.E.

Todos los fondos donados se transferirán directamente a la cuenta de la asociación y se utilizarán para continuar con sus operaciones.
