Leonie’s Half Marathon for The Brain Tumour Charity

Donation protected
On April 26th, I’ll be running the Magna Carta Half Marathon in memory of my Stepdad, Gary—a man who taught me the true meaning of determination, strength, and unshakeable positivity. His example has inspired me to take on this challenge and dedicate my run to such a meaningful cause. I have chosen to run for The Brain Tumour Charity because it’s a cause that is incredibly close to my heart.

In December 2021, Gary was diagnosed with grade 4 glioblastoma brain cancer and was given months to live. It was a shocking diagnosis, especially since he had always been so fit and healthy. But true to his character, Gary never once complained.

Gary underwent two brain surgeries, along with numerous rounds of chemotherapy and radiotherapy. Despite the odds, Gary defied expectations, and we were fortunate to create three more years of memories together before he died on May 15th, 2024. Towards the end of Gary’s life, I told him I would run a race to help others facing the same struggles he did. Though Gary couldn’t communicate at that point, the slight raise of his eyebrow was all I needed to know he was proud of me.

Even though there is no cure for glioblastoma, the funds raised for this charity will provide those facing the same battle Gary did with the vital support they need.

Thank you
