Leiria, my hometown in Portugal, is in a state of calamity.
Over 100,000 people are still without power or water, with no restoration deadline in sight, with many elderly and vulnerable residents completely isolated.
I’m Inês Pereira, I grew up in a small village surrounded by pine trees in Leiria and I’m calling for emergency relief to support families restore their roofs and homes.
HOW FUNDS WILL BE USED
I’m raising funds to support InPulsar, a trusted local charity - non-profit organisation (IPSS) based in Leiria, to repair homes, restore roofs, provide essential materials, and bring safety back to those affected.
InPulsar is a cause close to my heart — I support them as a friend and partner and am directly connected to the team.
Inpulsar was founded in 2012 by a group of social professionals dedicated to helping vulnerable people and building a more just and humane society.
InPulsar works directly with the community to support those most in need — including children, families, young people, refugees, the elderly, and people experiencing homelessness
CONTEXT:
In the early hours of January 28, 2026, winds of over 200 km/h tore through my hometown of Leiria, along with surrounding villages and beaches, including Nazaré and Vieira. I was there and saw with my eyes.
Hundreds of families lost their roofs and had their homes destroyed. Roads, schools, and factories were severely damaged, and relentless rains continue to worsen the devastation.
More than 1 million people lost power across Portugal, and as of today, February 3, over 100,000 are still without electricity, hot water, or communication.
It’s heartbreaking to be far away and witness so much suffering after Storm Kristin completely devastated the Leiria region.
I kindly ask all of you — expats, non-expats, and my beloved Irish friends — to stand with Leiria. Your support can help families survive this crisis, rebuild their homes, and regain hope.
