Legal Support for Amazing Single Mom

Hello everyone, I created this campaign to help a dear friend secure effective legal representation in her upcoming custody trial. While she unsuccessfully fights to resolve things out of court, the other side pours seemingly endless funds into attorneys to erode her parental rights and obtain more placement when he doesn’t even use the time he currently has. It has been this way for years, exhausting the nest egg my friend incubated for the better part of a decade. She tried various attorneys before realizing that it's nearly impossible to find one who is both experienced and affordable, even attempting to represent herself in order to hold onto what little savings remained. This, however, cost her dearly in placement rulings so she recently secured an aggressive attorney confident in her ability to undo the most recent damage done to her case. Funds raised here will help buffer that cost, an estimated $20–$30K for the trial alone.
As much as I adore my friend, my motivating force is her young son’s best interests, something the family court system so often seems to forget. He is a joyful, independent, radiant 3-year-old, naturally attached to his incredible mom with whom he has resided since birth. Their bond is powerful and he thrives in her care.
Despite living in different states, her son has also built a bond with his father who chose to live 2,000 miles away throughout the pregnancy and since. They have regular visits on FaceTime as well as monthly in-person visits. Restrictions established by the court limited the father’s visitation to public locations for the first two years and more recently stipulated breathalyzing during placement. Despite this and ongoing poor treatment toward my friend in their son’s presence, she has never prevented time with their son and does not propose doing so in the future. She simply wants any placement changes to be implemented gradually and honor their child’s developmental needs.
Even small donations help and sharing the link with those her story may resonate with could make a world of difference to her personally, not to mention help move the needle from a disheartening place in family court across the country.
Though she wishes to keep her son’s identity private, she has offered to answer questions any potential donors have.
